1. POSITION VACANT: Documentation Associate (Photographer & Videographer), Joti Foundation, Field-Based 

 

2. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:

 

Joti Foundation (JOTI) is a registered non-governmental organization headquartered in New Chandigarh, Punjab. Since its inception, JOTI has been committed to building resilient, inclusive, and empowered communities across India. The Foundation works in close collaboration with a wide network of government agencies, national and international non-governmental organizations, bilateral institutions, and civil society partners to design and implement programs that create lasting social impact.

 

JOTI’s programmatic work spans areas including Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), anticipatory action and early warning systems, emergency and humanitarian response, climate resilience, community livelihoods, social protection, and rehabilitation of vulnerable populations. The Foundation’s interventions are grounded in community participation, evidence-based practices, and a strong commitment to transparency and accountability.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Documentation Associate (DA) will be responsible for capturing high-quality photographs and videos directly from JOTI's project areas, including village-level program activities, community interactions, field events, disaster response operations, and beneficiary engagements. This role will support building a visual archive for donor reporting, social media campaigns, advocacy materials, and organizational storytelling. This is primarily a field role that requires comfort with travel, an eye for authentic storytelling, and strong technical skills in photography and videography.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

(A) Field Photography & Videography:

(1) Travel regularly to JOTI's project areas including villages in districts and other field locations across India to capture on-ground program activities;

(2) Photograph and film community events, training sessions, awareness campaigns, field distributions, disaster response activities, and beneficiary interactions;

(3) Capture candid, contextual, and dignified images and videos that authentically represent beneficiaries and community life while following ethical documentation standards;

(4) Conduct planned shoots as briefed by the Communications Manager including specific visual requirements for donor reports, campaigns, and media outputs;

(5) Capture before-and-after documentation of infrastructure, rehabilitation, and community-level interventions as required by programs;

 

(B) Video Production & Editing:

(1) Record and edit short-form videos for social media including Reels, YouTube Shorts, and campaign clips using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, or equivalent;

(2) Produce longer documentary-style field footage for donor presentations, organizational profiles, and partner reporting;

(3) Add subtitles, captions, lower thirds, and basic motion graphics to videos as required;

(4) Record testimonials, interviews, and direct quotes from community members and program staff during field visits;

(5) Ensure videos are exported in formats and resolutions suitable for social media, presentations, and archiving;

 

(C) Content Organization & Sharing:

(1) Maintain a well-organized and regularly updated digital archive of photographs and videos categorized by project, location, date, and activity type;

(2) Share field content promptly with the Communications Manager and relevant program teams through agreed platforms;

(3) Tag and caption all visual assets with accurate field information including location, date, activity, and names or consents as applicable;

(4) Ensure all content is backed up systematically and no field documentation is lost;

(5) Maintain a shot list and content tracker for each field visit to ensure complete coverage of required visuals;

 

(D) Community Relations & Ethical Documentation:

(1) Build respectful and comfortable relationships with community members to enable natural and authentic photography and filming;

(2) Obtain and document informed consent from individuals photographed or filmed in line with safeguarding policies;

(3) Represent Joti Foundation with professionalism, sensitivity, and cultural respect during field visits;

(4) Coordinate with field staff to plan and schedule documentation visits efficiently;

 

(E) Equipment Management:

(1) Operate, maintain, and take ownership of all assigned photography and videography equipment including cameras, lenses, drones, microphones, and accessories;

(2) Report equipment damage, malfunction, or loss immediately to the reporting manager;

(3) Ensure equipment is charged, cleaned, and field-ready prior to assignments;

(4) Assist in preparing technical specifications and justifications for procurement of new equipment when required;

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification:

(1) Diploma or degree in Photography, Filmmaking, Visual Communication, Mass Communication, or a related field;

(2) Formal training in photography or videography from a recognized institution is preferred;

(3) Self-taught professionals with a strong demonstrable portfolio are encouraged to apply;

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum two to four years of hands-on experience in photography and/or videography, preferably in field, documentary, development, or humanitarian settings;

(2) Prior experience working with an NGO, development agency, media house, or documentary production unit will be an advantage;

(3) A strong portfolio of field photography and/or video work is mandatory;

 

Skills and Competencies:

 

(A) Technical Skills:

(1) Proficient in operating DSLR and mirrorless cameras including manual settings for exposure, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance.:

(2) Hands-on experience with video editing software such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent tools;

(3) Ability to independently shoot and edit short-form social media videos from capture to final export;

(4) Working knowledge of drone operation and aerial photography is an advantage;

(5) Familiarity with Google Drive or similar cloud platforms for file sharing and storage;

(6) Basic skills in photo editing using Lightroom, Snapseed, or similar tools for color correction and retouching.

 

(B) Personal Attributes:

(1) Willingness and ability to travel frequently to rural and semi-urban field areas in Project areas of Joti Foundation across India;

(2) Strong sense of visual storytelling with the ability to identify and capture impactful moments from field activities;

(3) Comfortable working in diverse field conditions including rural settings, outdoor environments, and community gatherings;

(4) Punctual, self-driven, and capable of working independently without constant supervision;

(5) Fluency in Punjabi and/or Hindi for effective communication with community members of the field;

(6) Genuine interest in social development, humanitarian work, and community welfare.

 

5. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

The gross compensation budgeted for the position ranges from Rs. 25,000/- to 40,000/- per month. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
