Job Description

1. POSITIONS VACANT: Consultant, International Not-for-Profit Organization, New Delhi.

 

2. ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:

 

Our client is a respected international not-for-profit, that works in public health, to improve the health of disadvantaged communities, across the globe.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Senior Consultant GHS will coordinate with the Centre for One Health (CoH) on the strategic and technical matters to design, refine, and implement innovative activities under the Global Health Security portfolio. With experience in national and international agencies working on disease surveillance, laboratory strengthening and one health (NCDC, USAID, FIND, and others), the Sr. Consultant will help shape interventions that withstand national programme ecosystem, foster cross-sectoral convergence, and contribute to organizational leadership in global health security. S/he will be responsible for the following work;

 

Key Job Responsibilities: 


(1) Coordination with CoH;
(a) Coordinate with CoH to align activities of the project to the Government priorities;
(b) Ensure smooth communication between CoH and Jhpiego for any joint activities, of national level or state level;

(c) Support the sustainable implementation of Collaborative Surveillance under a One Health framework by planning and conducting baseline assessments to evaluate institutional capacities, system readiness, and existing coordination mechanisms, and generate actionable recommendations for system strengthening
(d) Facilitate national efforts to enhance the capacity and operations of various components of NOHP-PCZ, with a focus on strengthening laboratory systems for efficient, timely, and accurate zoonotic disease detection and response;

(2) Strategic Technical Guidance;
(a) Provide technical inputs on laboratory strengthening efforts, one health related documents and training materials;
(b) Advice on area of interventions that converge with the government efforts, leverage each other’s assets and have catalytic impact;

 

(3) Innovation and Convergence;
(a) Advise on design of innovative convergence models across human, animal, and environmental health sectors;

(b) Recommend scalable solutions for surveillance, diagnostics, and response that can be piloted and institutionalized;


(4) Capacity Strengthening and Mentorship;

(a) Mentor technical teams to build next-generation leadership in GHS in India;
(b) Provide guidance for training curricula, knowledge resources, and capacity-building initiatives for government and partners;
(c) Development of SOPs, Guidelines, and Training Resources: Support the development, standardization, and dissemination of SOPs, operational guidelines, and training materials for zoonotic disease surveillance, including antimicrobial use and stewardship across sectors;


(5) Intersectoral coordination;
(a) Strengthening Intersectoral Coordination and Data Sharing: Facilitate and/or organize intersectoral coordination meetings/workshops to strengthen collaboration and data sharing across sectors;


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications and Experience:
(1) Applicants must have an advanced degree (PhD/ MD/ MPH/ MSc or equivalent) in public health, microbiology, epidemiology, veterinary sciences, or related fields;
(2) Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in global health security, including work with international organizations and national public health institutions (e.g., NCDC).;

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Proven expertise in global health frameworks and national infectious disease programmes (IHR, GHSA, One Health, IDSP, pandemic preparedness);
(2) Demonstrated ability to design and advise on complex health security programs at
national and international levels;
(3) Strong leadership, mentoring, and relationship-building skills with senior government counterparts and global agencies

(4) Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of Indian context and systems highly desirable;
(5) Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a multicultural team;

(6) Ability to produce documents and coordinate activities independently;

(7) Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines;
(8) Excellent organizational skills required;
(9) Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with diverse stakeholders;
(10) Demonstrated analytical skills for data collection and reporting;

(11) Proficiency in using technology for communication and data management. Proficiency in computer skills particularly MS Office;

(12) Excellent English, Hindi and/or local language communication skills;

(13) Demonstrated skills on communications and knowledge management;

(14) Willingness and flexibility to work on a wide range of tasks;


5. CONSULTANCY FEE: Consultancy budgeted for the position is INR 2,19,800/-.

8. NATURE OF CONTRACT:

 

The selected candidate shall be engaged as a Consultant on the rolls of SAMS, a third-party payrolling agency, for a full-time consultancy engagement initially offered for a period of Three months. The contract is extendable based on performance and project requirements. It is explicitly clarified that this consultancy engagement does not constitute a promise or guarantee of future employment, with SAMS, or our client, or any other organization associated with the project.
