Job Description

1. POSITIONS VACANT: Consultant - Lab Technician, International Not-for-Profit Organization (INPO), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

 

2. ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:

 

Our client is a respected international not-for-profit, that works in public health, to improve the health of disadvantaged communities, across the globe.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Consultant – Lab Technician will be responsible for ensuring proper collection, handling, testing, and documentation of cervical cancer screening samples and related diagnostic activities. The role will also support broader program implementation and coordination with public and private sector facilities. S/he will be responsible for the following work;

 

Key Job Responsibilities: 

 

(1) Ensure timely processing and transportation of cervical cancer screening samples from both public and private facilities.;
(2) Receive, label, and prepare samples for testing using standard laboratory protocols and equipment;

(3) Execute laboratory testing procedures, record observations accurately, and interpret basic test findings;

(4) Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, and calibration of all laboratory equipment as per quality standards;

(5) Ensure proper documentation of data and test results in specified formats. Maintain daily laboratory logs and adhere to documentation standards as per the project requirements;

(6) Monitor laboratory supply stock and inform concerned teams for timely replenishment of reagents, consumables, and other essentials;

(7) Support organizing screening activities through various outreach and facility-based approaches as needed;

(8) Strengthen coordination and referral linkages for women requiring further diagnosis or treatment following screening;

(9) Liaise with sample collection points and MPMMCC for timely transfer and reporting of results;

(10) Support the project team in ensuring timely sharing of test results with FLWs and facilities for appropriate follow-up;

(11) Travel to intervention sites across Varanasi district to support on-ground implementation of sample management activities;      

(12) Assist in trainings or demonstrations related to laboratory protocols for screening services, as directed;

(13) Troubleshoot routine issues related to laboratory equipment, testing procedures, and sample handling; escalate unresolved technical problems to the supervisor or relevant technical expert;
(14) Work in continuous coordination with faculty and laboratory teams at MPMMCC to ensure quality assurance, timely sample processing, and smooth flow of diagnostic reports;

(15) Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to achieve the objectives of the project;


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications and Experience:

(1) Applicants must have Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field;

(2) Proven experience working as a lab technician;
(3) Valid laboratory technician license;

(4) Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment;

 

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Comfortable handling potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, biohazards, etc.);

(2) Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and database systems;

(3) Ability to work autonomously and under pressure;

(4) Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination;

(5) Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

(6) Keen attention to detail;

(7) Must know how to calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and maintain the equipment;

(8) Dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens and use the equipment;

(9) Must follow instructions and procedures very carefully;

(10) H/She must also use critical thinking skills to recognize problems and develop solutions or alternative approaches;

(11) Lab techs must use proper precautions to protect themselves and other workers;

(12) Good interpersonal skills are necessary to put patients at ease and build rapport with patients and coworkers;

(13) Technically proficient with skills required for the assigned task;

(14) Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines;

(15) Willingness and flexibility to work on a wide range of tasks;

(16) Microsoft Office computer skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;

(17) Ability to travel extensively as per need;

 

5. CONSULTANCY FEE: The monthly consultancy fee budgeted for the position is INR 22,500/- and overall CTC for 2 months is INR 45,000/-.

9. NATURE OF CONTRACT:

 

The selected candidate shall be engaged as a Consultant on the rolls of SAMS, a third-party payrolling agency, for a full-time consultancy engagement initially offered for a period of two months. The contract is extendable based on performance and project requirements. It is explicitly clarified that this consultancy engagement does not constitute a promise or guarantee of future employment, with SAMS, or our client, or any other organization associated with the project.
