Job Description

1. POSITION VACANT:

Head – Marketing & Communications | Confidential Organisation | Noida, Uttar Pradesh

2. ORGANISATION OVERVIEW

A well-established not-for-profit organisation is committed to unlocking the transformative power of technology for social impact. A neutral body with strong links to the Indian technology industry, it works to create access and opportunity for those who need it most, helping people and institutions transform the way they tackle social and economic challenges through technology.

The organisation’s work spans five areas of intervention: digital literacy, skilling and employability, women’s entrepreneurship, scaling social innovation and empowering the NGO ecosystem.

As it enters its next strategic phase, the organisation aims to reach millions of young Indians, help bridge the digital divide and become the partner of choice for corporate India. It values joy, collaboration and mission alignment in its work culture.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head – Marketing & Communications will be the strategic anchor of the organisation’s brand, narrative and public presence. Reporting to the CEO, the incumbent will architect and execute an integrated communications strategy that advances three core mandates – fundraising momentum, CSR compliance and visibility, and long-term brand equity – across India’s technology, government, corporate and civil society ecosystems. The role leads a four-to-five-member in-house team and governs all external agency relationships.

The incumbent will translate complex programmatic work into high-credibility storytelling across media, digital and event channels, building the brand recognition and stakeholder trust required to compound fundraising and strategic partnerships over the next decade.

Key Responsibilities:

(A) Strategic Leadership

(1) Own and evolve the organisation’s integrated brand strategy, aligning communications with the three mandates: fundraising, CSR compliance, and brand equity.

(2) Lead the annual communications planning process, including budget allocation, campaign calendars, and agency contracts.

(3) Provide CEO and senior leadership with executive communications support, speechwriting, media briefings, and positioning counsel.

(4) Identify marketable stories, milestones, and partnership announcements that advance institutional visibility and stakeholder trust.

(5) Guide CEO and Board-level leadership visibility, including media positioning, thought leadership platforms, and high-profile stakeholder engagements.

(6) Report quarterly to the CEO on brand health, media presence, digital performance, and stakeholder sentiment.

(7) Represent the organisation at national forums, thought leadership platforms, and high-profile stakeholder engagements.

(B) Brand and Narrative Architecture

(1) Define and govern the organisation’s master narrative, tone of voice, and brand identity standards across all channels and teams.

(2) Develop a sharp editorial judgement framework, determining what is newsworthy, what elevates brand credibility, and what is best held for strategic moments.

(3) Commission and oversee flagship publications, annual impact reports, anniversary communications, whitepapers, and policy briefs.

(4) Establish the organisation’s ‘story bank’: a living repository of beneficiary narratives, partnership case studies, and impact data stories.

(5) Build and protect brand equity through consistent external representation across print, digital, events, and government engagement.

(6) Guide external messaging for co-branded visibility with corporate and government partners.

(C) Revenue and Fundraising Communications

(1) Partner with the Fundraising and Partnerships team to develop compelling donor narratives, pitch decks, and grant communication materials.

(2) Drive communications strategy for cause-based marketing campaigns and CSR partnership announcements.

(3) Develop and implement visibility frameworks for corporate donor programmes, ensuring grant compliance and impact visibility requirements are met.

(4) Identify and build revenue-generating capabilities within the Comms function, self-sustaining communications products, licensing of content frameworks, or fee-for-service media capabilities.

(5) Translate programmatic impact into influence — enabling the Fundraising team to convert stakeholder interest into partnerships.

(D) Team and Vendor Governance

(1) Lead, mentor, and manage a team of four-to-five direct reports across brand, thought leadership, digital, events, and social media.

(2) Establish performance review rhythms, shared OKRs, and cross-functional working norms.

(3) Own the vendor empanelment process for PR, social media, creative, videography, and event agencies.

(4) Define outsourcing boundaries: identify what must remain in-house versus what should be contracted.

4. EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

Qualifications and Experience:

(1) Postgraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Management (MBA preferred).

(2) 15+ years of experience in communications leadership, including 5+ years at a senior management level.

(3) Experience in the non-profit, CSR, or development sector is a strong advantage.

(4) Track record of successful high-stakes campaign execution at national scale.

Skills and Attributes:

(1) Proven ability to build and articulate institutional narratives for complex, mission-driven organisations.

(2) Strategic understanding of the CSR ecosystem, corporate philanthropy, and government policy landscape in India.

(3) Strong commercial instinct, ability to link communications outcomes to fundraising and partnership revenue.

(4) Experience managing integrated agencies (PR, digital, creative, events) simultaneously.

(5) Executive presence and credibility to represent the organisation at CEO/Board level.

(6) Data fluency: ability to interpret analytics and translate into strategy adjustments.

(7) Demonstrated leadership of high-performing, mission-aligned teams.

5. KPIs, STAKEHOLDERS AND WORKING CONTEXT

Key Performance Indicators:

(1) Media share of voice in target publications – monthly tracking.

(2) Net Promoter Score from CSR partners on communications quality – annual.

(3) Fundraising communication conversion, from proposals to partnerships – quarterly.

(4) Digital performance: website traffic, social follower growth and engagement rate – monthly.

(5) Team retention rate and cross-functional satisfaction score – annual.

(6) Campaign reach against planned targets – per campaign.

(7) Budget utilisation for the communications function – quarterly.

Stakeholder Interactions:

Internal: CEO, Programme Directors, HR, Finance and the Fundraising team. External: corporate CSR heads, government ministries, PR and creative agencies, media houses, technology partners, event vendors, and peer foundations and NGO networks.

Decision Authority:

Full authority over communications and marketing strategy, budget allocation within the approved envelope, vendor selection and contract terms, creative and editorial direction, and team hiring decisions (with HR concurrence). Joint authority with the CEO on positioning of major campaigns and any communication involving government or Board-level stakeholders.

Cultural Expectations:

Must model and reinforce the organisation’s culture of joy, collaboration and mission alignment, holding team check-ins that are as motivating as they are operational. Must make space for team creativity while holding high standards for quality and brand integrity. A servant-leader who builds capability, not dependency.
