Selection of Skilled Bamboo Craft / Construction Team for Design, Fabrication and Erection of a Bamboo Innovation Centre

Location: Ratan Tata Rural Technology Park (RRTP), Madhuadih, Sarwa Block, Deoghar District, Jharkhand 

Background:

NEEDS proposes to establish a Bamboo Innovation & Product Development Centre (BIPDC) within the Ratan Tata Rural Technology Park (RRTP), Deoghar, as a dedicated facility for bamboo-based design, product innovation, prototyping, artisan development, enterprise incubation and market development.

The Centre is envisaged as a demonstration of how traditional bamboo craftsmanship can be combined with contemporary design, engineering, sustainable construction and modern finishing techniques to create functional, durable and commercially viable bamboo products and infrastructure.

NEEDS therefore invites applications from experienced bamboo craft groups, artisan collectives, bamboo enterprises, master craftsmen, design-build teams and specialised agencies having demonstrated experience in designing, fabricating and erecting bamboo-based workplaces, studios, offices, training centres, resorts, community buildings, exhibition spaces or similar structures. 

The proposed Bamboo Innovation Centre will have an approximate built-up area of: 900 sq. ft. 

Construction Concept:

The proposed building should demonstrate high-quality contemporary bamboo construction, rather than a temporary bamboo shed. The structure should be designed and executed with due consideration to applicable Indian building requirements and relevant bamboo construction standards. NEEDS strongly encourages applications from teams that combine traditional bamboo craftsmanship with contemporary design and construction capability. Traditional craft knowledge will be considered a major strength. 

Scope of Work of the Selected Bamboo Team:

The selected team will preferably undertake the following activities.

• Design & Technical Preparation
• Bamboo Selection, Treatment and Preparation
• Fabrication & Construction

Minimum Skill & Experience Requirements:

Applicants should demonstrate practical experience in one or more of the following areas.

• Bamboo Construction
• Bamboo Craftsmanship
• Construction Technology
• Finishing  

Financial Arrangement – Labour and Construction Service Cost:

NEEDS will provide the principal construction materials. The purpose of this EoI is therefore not to seek a quotation for the complete building or construction materials.

The selected team will be expected to submit a financial proposal covering primarily:

• Skilled labour / artisan wages and construction service costs
• Materials to be provided by NEEDS

The selected team should not include the cost of materials in its labour quotation.
