1. POSITIONS VACANT: Consultant, International Not-for-Profit Organization, Remote.
2. ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Our client is a respected international not-for-profit, that works in public health, to improve the health of disadvantaged communities, across the globe.
3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Consultant will be responsible for providing English>French/ French>English interpretation for the Safer Births in Crisis Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) between the francophone field team and US-based technical assistance. This will include twice monthly one-hour calls, as well as ad hoc meetings, i.e. project study management, dissemination meetings, etc. requiring interpretation. S/he will be responsible for the following work;
Key Job Responsibilities:
(1) Meetings to be scheduled via Zoom (or Microsoft Teams) to use the interpretation function. Client to notify the CONTRACTOR(S) at least 3 days in advance about any upcoming meeting cancellations;
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications and Experience:
(1) Applicants must have o Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Conference Interpretation, Translation Studies, Linguistics, or related field OR equivalent recognized training from an accredited interpretation institution;
(2) Minimum 5 years of professional experience providing French–English simultaneous interpretation;
(3) Native or near-native fluency in both French and English;
(4) Professional certification, strongly preferred, such as;
(a) AIIC membership or compliance with AIIC norms;
(b) National or regional interpreter certification;
(c) Recognized French/English proficiency certifications if applicable;
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Demonstrated experience interpreting at international conferences, and meetings (in-person and virtual) preferably UN-style, academic, or technical events;
(2) Proven experience interpreting public health, medical, epidemiological, or scientific content, including familiarity with: maternal health, monitoring and evaluation, health systems and policy;
(3) Excellent cognitive agility and real-time processing;
(4) Strong understanding of scientific terminology and ability to rapidly absorb new content;
(5) Professional demeanor, punctuality, commitment to confidentiality, and accuracy;
5. CONSULTANCY FEE: Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.

8. NATURE OF CONTRACT:
The selected candidate shall be engaged as a Consultant on the rolls of SAMS, a third-party payrolling agency, for a full-time consultancy engagement initially offered for a period of One Year. The contract is extendable based on performance and project requirements. It is explicitly clarified that this consultancy engagement does not constitute a promise or guarantee of future employment, with SAMS, or our client, or any other organization associated with the project.
