2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) conducts in-depth, policy-relevant research and provides evidence-based recommendations to the challenges facing India and the world. It draws on the expertise of its researchers, extensive interactions with policymakers as well as convening power to enhance the impact of research.
CSEP researchers work across domains including, but not limited to, Growth, Finance, Health and Human Development; Energy, Natural Resources and Sustainability; and Foreign Policy and Security. All CSEP research and policy recommendations are freely available to the public.
CSEP is an independent, non-partisan research organisation based in New Delhi. It is registered as a company limited by shares and not for profit, under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 (earlier Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956).

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
CSEP is looking for a Graphic Designer to join the Communications team and work closely with researchers across verticals. The position requires strong design fundamentals, editorial judgement, and the ability to translate complex research into clear, compelling, and visually engaging outputs.
The ideal candidate should be organised, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to think on their feet, adapting design approaches to different kinds of research and communication needs while maintaining high standards of clarity, consistency, and aesthetics.
S/he will be responsible for the layout and design of CSEP’s research outputs, including research papers, annual reports, briefs, and other publications. The chosen candidate will also create print and digital communication assets for events, conferences, and social media.
The role requires a strong foundation in publication design and the ability to balance creativity with precision, while ensuring alignment and consistency with CSEP’s identity and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
The Graphic Designer will be expected to:
(1) Implement the layout and typesetting of research papers, reports, and other publications, ensuring accuracy, readability, and visual coherence;
(2) Design covers and visuals for research outputs across verticals, translating content into thoughtful design solutions, in collaboration with the Communications team and researchers;
(3) Interpret research content and make editorial design decisions relating to structure, hierarchy, use of charts/graphics, etc.;
(4) Create communication collaterals including event materials, social media creatives, presentations, and conference assets (e.g., backdrops, standees, brochures);
(5) Conduct final quality checks on all outputs (alignment, typography, consistency, print readiness, etc.);
(6) Prepare files for digital and print production;
(7) Manage multiple projects and adhere to stipulated timelines.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications and Experience:
(1) Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Multimedia, or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio are also encouraged to apply;
(2) Two to three years of work experience, with a strong portfolio in print and digital publication;
(3) Proficiency in Adobe InDesign (critical), Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat;
(4) Strong understanding of typography, layout systems, and information hierarchy;
(5) Experience with tools like Canva or PowerPoint for template design;
(6) Prior experience in think tanks, research organisations, publishing, or media is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Ability to work confidently with text and data-heavy documents;
(2) Strong editorial judgement- can assess what a document needs structurally and visually;
(3) Ability to work efficiently (collaboratively and independently) under deadlines, with high attention to detail;
(4) Confidence in taking initiative and proposing design improvements proactively;
(5) Familiarity with data visualisation and chart styling;
(6) Basic knowledge of video editing or motion graphics;
(7) Experience with tools like Canva or PowerPoint for template design;
(8) Prior experience in think tanks, research organisations, publishing, or media preferred.
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
The gross compensation budgeted for the position is INR 75,000/- per month. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
